Argotec First to Offer
Extruded Polyurethane Foam Sheet

GREENFIELD , Massachusetts - Argotec, Inc., of Greenfield , Massachusetts , announced today that they have extruded their first Polyurethane Foam (PUF) sheet. This breakthrough allows PUF to be provided in forms previously unavailable to plastics fabricators, converters and design engineers.

The new Arogtec PUF product is available in polyester or polyether urethane, and in hardnesses ranging from 65A to 90 Shore A. At present, Argotec is able to extrude PUF sheet in thicknesses of 30 - 80 mils, and in widths up to 60 inches. It can be produced with specific gravities as low as 0.40. Argotec can also extrude its new PUF product onto a variety of fabric or plastic carriers, or as stand-alone sheet.

Extruded polyurethane foam sheet has excellent compression set compared to standard TPU's, and can easily be thermal bonded, radio frequency (RF) sealed or vacuum formed. The Argotec product is nearly 100% closed cell, resulting in better compression properties, reduced liquid absorption and excellent floatation characteristics. It is highly "cyclable," making it ideal for bladders, bellows, or other applications with highly repetitive motions. Another advantage of extruding polyurethane foam is the lack of VOCs compared to PUF sheet produced by other methods.

In addition, extruded Argotec PUF sheet has all the outstanding properties of normal TPU sheet and film, including excellent abrasion resistance, UV resistance and resistance to hydrocarbons, chemicals, ozone, bacteria and fungus, as well as exceptional tensile strength, resistance to skin oils, good "hand" or "feel" when in contact with the skin, and ease of fabrication. The extrusion method also allows for greater customization and smaller, more readily available runs.
